Lets get political

In honor of her glorious appearance in Tucson last Friday, I have decided to voice my opinions on one Sarah Palin. I will try to make this as intelligent as possible, and refrain from stooping to callous insults. It will be difficult.

Sarah Palin has established a considerable cult of personality in the last 2 years. I am loathe to understand why. My father is an old style Republican, someone who is not terribly concerned with abortion, gay marriage, or "good Christian values." He just doesn't want to pay taxes. So I asked him the other day how he is able to choose a candidate these days. It seems there is no such thing as a Republican anymore. It has become a world of neo conservatism. Specifically I asked him about Palin, and whether or not he thought she was worth his time. It turns out, he actually likes her. He spouted of the usual "she offers something different" spiel, but then he said something that really bothered me. He said "I think she epitomizes the every-woman, women can relate to her."

I thought about that for a minute.

I realized that the women whom I associate with are intelligent, articulate, and well-read. I don't want to be associated with Sarah Palin, and neither do they.

My problem with Sarah Palin isn't so much one of intelligence. It is fairly obvious she is not a member of Mensa. She is, in fact, an idiot. But Reagan wasn't a genius either. Reagan did realize, however, that he needed great advisors in order to be a great president (although the greatness of his presidency is debatable). Palin believes in her own intelligence. The McCain camp tried in vain to prep her for interviews and debates. She was completely unwilling to participate. And when she ultimately failed, she whined and blamed the media for being "too hard on her." Apparently, they were asking her unfair questions. They were picking on her because she was a woman.

Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi never seem to have that problem.

She sets back feminism years when she says that somehow she deserves special dispensation from the press for being a wife and mother. For example, the firestorm she ignited over the recent "Family Guy" episode.

Sarah Palin, you are a public figure, and as such you are open to scrutiny, satire, and ridicule.

The worst part is, if she becomes President, she represents American women all over the world. And she is not the image of women I want portrayed to the rest of the world.

Women have worked so hard to come to a place in this country where the notion of a female president is an accepted one. I think people sometimes forget that women have had suffrage in this country less than 100 years. I want the first female President of the United States to be someone who is capable. I don't want it to be a woman who can't even name a single newspaper.

Also, no one cares that she didn't abort the Down-Syndrome baby. She shouldn't be praised for doing the right thing. I run with a very liberal crowd, yet I couldn't name a single one of my friends who would have an abortion due to birth defects.

If she wants to be a good mother, she needs to stop parading her children around like propaganda tools. Let them go home to Alaska and go to school. She needs to get her oldest on birth control. She needs to take some fucking responsibility for her family.

Also, she needs to keep her husband away from the secessionist groups. It looks bad.

Um, there is so much more, but those are the main issues I have with her.

She can come back when she reads something. All the way through.

Preferably the Constitution.
